Reflection Presentations Done Creatively.
Every Thursday I have had the pleasure of listening to group
presentations on their thoughts and reflections on the week’s topic(s) in my
class—Class, Caste, and Gender. This
week was about women’s movements in India. Students recited poems, sung songs,
danced, chanted, etc. and they are heartfelt. I so badly wanted to record some
of them but felt it would be disrespectful to do so without asking them.
Instead, here is a famous poet in India and a link to some of her poems translated in English.
I love watching these presentations. It is so nice to see
different students analyse the topic(s) and demonstrate their understanding in
a creative way. In so many ways, my Professor is teaching the Design Thinking
Process (DTP) method without consciously doing so. Through these presentations,
he is asking students to empathize
with the topics and people that they are learning about in class. It makes me
realize that DTP does not have to be completed all the time through all the 5
steps—empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test. It is essential that the
foundation is set and students understand each of these 5 stages and then
teachers can use parts of DTP in each unit while having 2 times a years as full
DTP projects. As a teacher, I can say this seems manageable.
