Dinner with Neighbours-Saturday Night
Yes, I am still blogging about Saturday, May 18th. Each event was so special and such a rich experience that I wanted to give it the space it deserves on our blog.
Today's blog is about this wonderful family we have met in our neighbourhood. They have one son that will be going into the 8th grade and he is on the soccer team with James. The kids played while the adults chatted the night away. And on top of it all, we forgot to click pictures.
Here is a picture of the mom, Neelu. I have become very close to her in the last 6 months. She lives down the street and works at Indus. But her work at Indus is not what connects us. It is something a lot deeper.

Throughout the evening, I kept thinking in my head that this evening feels so comfortable and familiar. But it is the first time we have formally met. John and her husband, Gagan, drank most of a bottle of Indian whiskey but it was not your
typical gathering where the men are off in one corner and the women are in another corner. We all sat and chatted about life choices and had some good laughs about Americans and Indians. (They have lived in the U.S. as well)
My Massi was full of life and really enjoyed being with people and experiencing them for who they are. No judgements. And that is how I met Neelu. Right from when we arrived, she always said hi and made it a point to come up to me and John and talk to us and ask us how were were doing. If she was in her car, she would always stop and ask us if we needed a ride somewhere. Just so thoughtful and genuinely a happy person. She loves working and she loves her family. And we loved getting to know them on Saturday evening. Neelu is truly someone who we will keep in touch with over the years. No matter the distance, she will always hold a special place in my heart just as my Massi does:-)

And then it dawned on me. Neelu reminds me so much of my Massi who passed away too early. When she was giving me the tour of the house I could see her simple elegance which is what my Massi liked to call her style. From the way she dresses to her style in her home to how she interacts with people it is simple elegance. Neelu also had everything prepared so that we all could be together and she would not be in the kitchen preparing food which is exactly what my Massi would do.
