Ashram and James' Tikkun Olam.
Tikkun Olam is a concept in Judaism and is an aspiration to behave and act constructively and beneficially. Ashram and James have learned this in school and have chosen their own tikkun olam's. James has 2 parts to his.
Pretty much every day at home they make references to their tikkun olams whether it is while they are playing or reading stories. The other day, I was drinking water from a plastic water bottle and Ashram asked if he could have the plastic bottle after I was done with it so he could re-use for his imaginary play. And just tonight, while we were reading their books we made for them for Christmas, James' says emphatically: "look I am saving animals in this book, just like my tikkun olam!" I love all the connections that they are making from what they learn in school and bringing it home. That is the true essence of learning:-)
