Back to Life, Back to Reality...
I have had 2 restless nights and I really could not figure out why. John and I presume it is because I am starting my routine again after being away for 10 days. Additionally, maybe subconsciously or consciously I get nervous taking public transportation and making sure I get off the right stop. I don't know why. I am pretty good about asking and people are so kind and can tell that I am not a regular bus goer and always help me.
This morning I got to take an AC public bus. It felt like such a luxury for less than $1. Additionally, on the Azim Premji University shuttle I met an editor for the University and I told her why I am here in Bangalore and at the University. She asked me if I would be interested in writing a piece for their newspaper/social media. We thought it might be nice for both me and my professor to write one together and we exchanged emails. If I took an Ola, I would never have had these encounters and kind gestures.
Once I got to the University, I went to class and had such a warm welcome from my classmates. It was nice to be back in the routine and touch base with everyone and how they are doing. Class blew my mind today. All last week while we were on vacation, I was talking to my group members about our project and how to create an accountability framework for our assigned country-- Ghana. It was really hard to communicate on the phone and get them to think creatively and build an accountability framework from "thin air". But the information was right there, they were just not comfortable taking the risk and everyone presenting on what they learned about their assigned country. And here is where my mind was blown. My professor had enough forethought to know that the students were struggling a bit with the concept and that since I was out of town, that it would be best for each group to present on what they learned about the country and this week we build an accountability framework. My professor really heard my feedback about the my class two weeks ago and taught the class today beautifully--weaving everything together. She made it clear as to what needs to be done for the projects and is giving students class time to work on it in class. Together we learned that actions speak louder than words. Using the time tomorrow to dive into the project will allow them to ask questions of both of us and really complete something meaningful in class. So amazing!
P.S. Virtual high five to the person that knows who sings the song that is the title of my post:-)
