Train from New Delhi to Jaipur
We took a 3AC train from New Delhi to Jaipur. John and I wanted the kids to experience all types of transportation in India, especially the train. Trains, the train system, and train stations are an adventure all on its own. Not to mention that my Dad (their Nana) worked for the Indian railway system as an engineer. It was a "must experience" on this trip for us. We did not how the kids would like it so we wanted to ease them into experiencing the train by taking a 4 and half hour journey from New Delhi to Jaipur.
A 3AC train means that it has 3 tiers, an upper berth, middle berth, and lower berth. Since it was a day trip, the middle berth was not opened and everyone sat on the lower berth and those who wanted to sleep or had kids used the upper berth. Some people put luggage up there. Of course James and Ashram wanted to sit/lay/play on the "top bunk"
Much to our surprise, all of us really enjoyed the train journey and it seemed to go quickly. It did not seem like 4 and half hours and we had space. I would have to say the only down side of a train are the bathrooms, but truth be told on any mode of transportation, the bathrooms are the worst part. I am just not sure I would want to do an overnight on a train. But James and Ashram are very clear that they want to go on a train again. They loved it so much that they did not want to get off.
And getting off the train was an adventure in itself. People crowd the doors to get on and barely let people get off. This nice couple helped us with our 3 suitcases and the kids. It was really nice because it was so crowded. And then we got to take an auto rickshaw we all of our luggage and all of us. Who knew all of that could fit on a tiny rickshaw.
