Airbnb Part 2

Dear Family and Friends...before I begin my reflection on a 5-star hotel, please email John your inquiries about us living in India. He would like to make his next Blog entry semi-interactive. Please email him at jneiswender@hotmail.com and in the subject line, please type in "Fulbright". Thank you. It does not need to be long. It can just include a question about anything you are curious about as you take this journey with us on our blog.

Our experience at this Airbnb was also first class and I felt pampered but did not feel uncomfortable.

First the room was very spacious and had 4 beds with individual bug nets. The kids really enjoyed this because it felt like a tent on their bed. The room was air conditioned and had 3 separate rooms for the bathroom, shower, and changing room. Plus we had our own patio with a garden right outside our door where John and I could relax while the kids slept. It was nice because at the Le Meridian only one of us could be out of the room at a time, but here we could enjoy time and space together.

Everyone was getting their 30 minutes of electronics as soon as we got there to decompress.
Separate spaces for the bathroom and shower which was nice for 2 people at time to get ready in the morning.

Lovely garden that became our night sanctuary after a day of sightseeing.

At the Airbnb we also paid for meals if we wanted them and it was a nominal fee. We usually had breakfast at the Airbnb and ate out the rest of the meals. Here I felt at ease. I met the owners and talked them for a bit and understood their business. I also met the caretaker and cleaning person. In the house there were about 4 or 5 rooms, 1 couple that was the owner, 1 caretaker, and 1 cleaning person.

The owners and the caretaker lived on the premises. It was much easier for me to grasp where my money was going and to see how the people were treated. It felt balanced. But the truth is, I did not really know how my money was being distributed. Were the people that were working at the Airbnb getting a better cut of my money or is it the same at a 5-star hotel? More on my analysis and conclusions tomorrow.
