James' 8th Birthday Party

Wow! What a party! I think that this is our best birthday party to date!

At first we planned to celebrate James' birthday at a venue called soap futbol. We thought it was perfect combination of James' love for soccer and water with a slippery twist. That turned out to be a nightmare. Literally, two months ago we started planning for James' bday knowing how long things take in India to get done. John even went to the location to talk to someone in person and google maps took him to location that had nothing there. Not even a building. The guy apologized and said that he would send us the correct location and how to pay for the reservation. John again literally called him every other day for 2 weeks and he would get a response but no follow up. Finally we decided to take the matters in our own hands.

We decided to keep it to neighborhood friends and have a water balloon and water shooter party in the park and anyone and everyone could join. It was a super blast! In the end, it turned into a pool party with water shooters.

And those of you who know our birthday traditions, the cake is a HUGE centerpiece of the kids'  birthdays. They talk about what kind of cake and what they want on the cake for about a year. This year John took a break and he was really smart to do that. James requested a chocolate cake with chocolate icing with Oreos. I thought I could handle that and be creative with it. I decided to make 4 cakes so that all the children could have a piece of cake. I did not take into consideration that the power would go out and be out for hours. I burned one cake, the 2nd cake got half baked before the power went out and I had to wait 3 hours before it came on again. Then, I got up at 5:30am to make the last two. Thankfully that went smoothly. And then making the icing and decorations began. In the end the cakes turned out great and they were all gone in the end. I also read a funny article about cake decorations and how so many people take so much time to make beautiful cakes that are eaten in seconds. I kept that in mind as I decorated.
