Friday Night Train to Pondicherry

To get to the train station we had drive 2+ hours. Well, everyone said that it would take 1 hour 40 minutes maximum even our car service. For a 9pm train I scheduled the car for 6:15pm thinking it would be plenty of time. As you can see from the pictures above, it started out quite smoothly. Then we hit the city proper and it was crazy. The traffic was insane. Our driver kept looking on google maps to find the shortest route and we still did not get to the train station until 8:30pm. It was nail bitting for me. In my head I was thinking of all different scenarios if we missed our train but thank goodness that did not happen.

The kids got one of their wishes which was to sleep on a train. We thought Pondicherry was the best option since we basically sleep on the train and wake up in this beautiful seaside Union Territory Town (once a French Colonial Settlement). They loved the experience and they slept through the night with no issues and I have to say it is more comfortable than a plane minus the bathrooms. On a sleeper train you get to lie down and it is pretty comfortable. I got about 4 hours of sleep and John got about 1 hour of sleep which is typical for us when we travel by any mode of transportation.

It was an experience for all of us and I love the kids excitement each time we try something new. It makes me excited too:-) We are now in Pondicherry for the weekend visiting a friend and staying at a beach cottage. More on that to come later.
